Will the faucet I bought fit the sink I already have?
Count the holes in your sink deck and measure between the outer two, center to center. That measurement is the whole answer. A faucet built for one hole won't cover three unless it ships with a deck plate, and a widespread set drilled for eight inches won't reach holes drilled four inches apart.
| What your sink has |
What it takes |
If you bought something else |
| One hole |
Single-hole faucet |
Nothing wider fits without drilling the deck |
| Three holes, 4" apart |
Centerset faucet, or single-hole with a deck plate |
A widespread set won't span it. Return it |
| Three holes, 8" apart |
Widespread set — spout and handles are separate pieces |
A centerset leaves two holes open and looks it |
| Four holes |
Faucet plus sprayer, soap dispenser, or air gap |
Cap the spare, or fill it with a soap pump |
Why do the shutoff valves under the sink matter so much?
Because we have to close them to do anything, and in an older Red Oak house they often won’t. Multi-turn stops sit untouched for twenty years while hard water builds up inside. Turn the handle and it spins without shutting anything off, or it seals and starts weeping around the stem.
When that happens we shut the house down at the main and put in a quarter-turn ball valve while we’re under there. It adds to the ticket, and it means the next time anybody works on that sink, the water actually shuts off. We tell you before, not on the invoice.
What else gets replaced during the install?
The supply lines, always. Those braided connectors are cheap, they're already off, and a fifteen-year-old one with a rusted ferrule is a burst hose waiting for a weekend you're out of town. Reusing them to save a few dollars is the worst trade in this trade.
Beyond that it depends. Seized mounting nuts get cut off. A weeping drain assembly may want new gaskets while the cabinet is clear. If the sink is coming out as part of a bigger job, that’s remodel work and the sequencing changes.
Do I need a permit to replace a faucet in Red Oak?
No. Swapping a fixture on existing connections isn't permitted work in Red Oak or Waxahachie — that's reserved for repipes and gas work, where the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and the city both have a say. A faucet is a same-day job, no inspector.
Moving the sink is a different question. Relocating supply or drain lines to a new spot in the room does get permitted, and that's worth knowing before a countertop layout gets finalized.
When we'd tell you to hold off
If the faucet you bought doesn't match your hole configuration, don't have us force it. Drilling stainless is possible; drilling granite or quartz is a stone fabricator's job and a real risk of cracking a countertop you can't replace for the price of a faucet. Take it back, buy the one that fits the deck you have.
And if the fixture is only dripping rather than dying, you may not need a new one at all. Faucet repair is usually the cheaper answer on anything solid-brass. Call (469) 505-8362 and describe it — we'll tell you which conversation we're having.
You don’t have to source it yourself. Pick the faucet you want, send us the model, and we’ll buy it and bring it. Buy your own and that’s fine — our labor is warrantied on a faucet you supplied exactly as on one we did.
